WHAT HAVE I LEARNED THIS WEEK?
Hello guys, today i want to share about what activity and what i have learned in the first week of Strategic Management and Operation (SMO) class. So, as a new class and new subject, we also have a new lecturer, Dr. Ummi Salwa who is a senior lecturer from Faculty of Economics and Muamalat, USIM.
As usual, for first class is a class of introduction where Dr. Ummi asked us to write down our name in a paper and displays it as an easy way to her to call our name 😁 . I guess that this a way of strategic management too as she can call everyone who she want instantly with our name of course 😰😆.
After introduce about the course outline about this subject, she then order us to divided in 5 group with 6 members. The task then given when each of group must build the tallest tower with newspapers provided. The time limits was only 7 minutes. So, it a critical to think and work as a team to build the tower. I found that this activities is really good because it need us to planning the best strategy and manage it properly with the scar resources given.
My team member build the the third tallest tower for the first time. It is because we failed to directly think from the start as we keep going playing with the newspaper. Some of my teammate create a boat with newspaper while others just do what we should do😀 Its a funny moment but the idea also came from the boat's origami when we think to create a strong and bulk up the base of tower instead of the height. With the limited time, we then manage ourselves and divided task among ourselves.
Another think that i learn from this activity is a good corporation among team members also make work more efficient and managed strategically.
After the time end, all of group appear the towers front the class and there a representatives from each group who brief about their tower. My team members create a triangle based tower, with triple pillars....and a triangle hat's origami on top of the tower.. well, we rather to called it as an illumination tower despite the name of the tower is a hat tower😸 At the last, my group become the winner despite there 2 another towers which leading us in height, but lost in stability. So, i think that one another lesson i get is time is precious and we must do the task wisely with how many time we has. In case of short term, its rather to have low target with low risk which also strengthen the tower base despite focusing in the height only rather than high target but high risk which can cause the collapses greatly.
last thing that i learned is from what Dr. Ummi says is about the strategies that can help you to achieve your objectives and target.
After the activity, we then learned the subject which include the introduction of Strategic Management and Operation, which include the strategic management process which are the vision, mission and objective, strategic management planning, strategic formulation and the comparative advantages. Till then.
